Google lawyer: We’re good for newspapers – San Francisco Business Times:

A Google Inc. lawyer wrote in a company blog Tuesday that the search and advertising giant helps newspapers rather than hurting them.

Alexander Macgillivray wrote in the blog that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) drives a lot of traffic to newspaper web sites, “whether news sources choose to host their articles with us or on their own sites, and whether their business model is ad-supported or based on subscriptions.”

His comments are a reply to yesterday’s Associated Press statement about copying and unfair use of AP stories on the Internet. AP said it plans to crack down hard on people who copy and use its news without paying for it.
